GPBuddy Awards Winners Announced
GP Awards Recognise Excellence and Collaboration in Primary Healthcare
GPBuddy.ie, the most widely used online resource for GPs in Ireland, announced the winners of the inaugural GPBuddy Awards at a glittering ceremony in Dublin’s Shelbourne Hotel in September.
The awards ceremony was officially opened by Minister for Health, Simon Harris, T.D. and hosted by television personality and GP, Dr Pixie McKenna.
Over 270 people across the healthcare sector attended the ceremony to recognise the achievements of healthcare professionals working in community healthcare across the country.
Commenting on the opening of the GPBuddy Awards, Minister Simon Harris, T.D. said: “I am very pleased to be attending the inaugural GP Buddy Awards to recognise the achievements and collaborative efforts of GPs and healthcare professionals in community healthcare in Ireland.
In tonight’s nominations, I can see the innovation, dynamism and commitment of general practitioners. I am convinced that GPs are capable of taking on a leadership role in the development of an integrated, team-based primary care system.
I hope the examples of great practice being recognised tonight will encourage further collaboration between primary care professionals in communities around Ireland.”
Dr Shane McKeogh, co-founder of GPBuddy.ie added: “A lot of what we hear about in the health service these days is negative and can be very disheartening for our healthcare professionals who are working hard on the ground to care for their patients. That’s why we decided to set up the GPBuddy Awards – to recognise these individuals, be they GPs, practice staff, pharmacists and others – who are working silently, tirelessly and collaboratively in communities to make a real difference to the delivery of healthcare in this country.”
13 people received an Award at the ceremony in recognition of their achievements across categories such as ‘Best GP and Hospital Collaboration’, ‘Practice Nurse of the Year’, ‘Rural Practice of the Year’ and ‘GP of the Year’. Patients were invited to nominate their GP in the Patients’ Choice Category. A further 26 people were shortlisted across all categories.
A panel of judges including healthcare and medical professionals reviewed over 200 nominations to select the final 39 shortlisted entries.
