Promed Appoints New Managing Director
‘New Appointment seeks a world class solution for Irish Patients’
Promed, the leading supplier of medical products based in Co Kerry, has appointed a new Managing Director, Mr Barry Russell. Mr Russell’s appointment signals Promed’s intent to grow the Company and further cement its position as the leading supplier of medical products and technology for Ireland’s primary healthcare sector.
Mr Russell brings to the role a strong record of innovation and delivery in his healthcare career that spans 20 years. He joins Promed directly from Boston, USA where he successfully led the international commercialisation of neoSurgical, a medical devices company he founded and led as Chief Executive for over eight years.
For almost a decade prior to this role, Mr Russell was the Commercial Leader for the Johnson & Johnson Irish surgical businesses. Previous to this, he worked as a Research and Development Engineer for the cardiology business within Boston Scientific.
Mr Russell takes over the position as Managing Director at Promed from Colin Denman who held the role for the last 12 years. He will continue to build on the long-standing reputation of Promed within the primary care sector and couple with this the synergies with its parent company, PEI Surgical, to lead Promed through its growth period. One of Mr Russell’s main goals will be to bring his key learnings from the international healthcare market to the Irish primary care sector.
Commenting Mr Russell said; ‘Patients, health providers and industry leaders cannot wait for the kind of primary healthcare system we all wish to see. Irish patients deserve the same level of care as those in North America, Sweden, Holland and other such world class providers of Primary care. We must lead the change, find new ways to enable GPs to acquire the technology for diagnoses and treatments that are currently only available in the expensive and inaccessible hospital setting. As the leading company in Ireland providing device and equipment solutions to the Primary Healthcare sector Promed is best placed to lead the initiative from an industry perspective. We will work to find innovative ways to provide the technology solutions required to our GP population. These solutions must be affordable, save time and come with training and support. Patients are central to this and it is our goal to have every patient easily locate cost effective quick access to quality healthcare when and where they need it.’
I look forward to continuing the tradition in Promed in developing strategic long lasting partnerships with GPs and other healthcare professionals in primary care.
